beatles, beatles music

Like a massive cultural freight train, the Beatles keep chugging on through the decades, and it seems that nobody can get enough of those lovable mop-tops, John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. To celebrate their most famous native sons, the Beatles' hometown of Liverpool has decreed an official Beatles Day on July 10th, 2008. Businesses throughout the city will be decorated with Beatles memorabilia, the local radio stations will be playing their music all day, and Beatle wigs and inflatable guitars will be on sale all over the city so that people will be able to celebrate their favorite Beatles music. It seems amazing to me that almost 40 years after the Beatles music fell silent, they are still so popular and such a potent musical force not just in Liverpool, but all over the world. It seems you can't get through a day without hearing a snatch of their music on the radio, on the TV, or in advertising. I wonder what the deceased members of the band would make of all this hoopla so many years down the long and winding road?
