Paul McCartney can take credit for writing a lot of the best Beatles music but I think Eleanor Rigby is one of his finest works. The Beatles lyric to this song are short and repetitive but the image that they create are very clear. John Lennon has said that Paul wrote the first verse and he the rest. So this song is best described as a Lennon, McCartney collaboration, either way it has the same impact. The idea of loneliness is the theme to this song and the lyrics are like a short story exemplifying that. Eleanor Rigby was released on the 1966 album Revolver. The double string quartet in the song really creates a unique and powerful sound as you will see in the video attached. Here are the Beatles music lyrics to Eleanor Rigby:
Ah, look at all the lonely peopleAh, look at all the lonely peopleEleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has beenLives in a dreamWaits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the doorWho is it for?(Chorus)All the lonely peopleWhere do they all come from ?All the lonely peopleWhere do they all belong ?Father McKenzie writing the words of a sermon that no one will hearNo one comes near. Look at him working. Darning his socks in the night when there's nobody thereWhat does he care?(Chorus RepeatEleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her nameNobody cameFather McKenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the graveNo one was saved(Chorus Repeat)
