john lennonI believe that Imagine by John Lennon is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. There are mixed reports about what John Lennon was like as a person, but as far as I’m concerned anybody who could write such a fundamental song about peace must have been kind hearted. Whether you love or hate John Lennon, I think you lack something if you can’t appreciate the song Imagine. You are also in the minority, because Imagine is a well-loved song all over the world. Now there is even a light monument in Reykjavik dedicated to John Lennon and Imagine. John Lennon and Yoko Ono envisaged the idea in the 60’s but it wasn’t completed until last month. Although I admire John Lennon and the concept behind the monument, I think it looks a bit weird. To be candid, I can’t help but feel that the monument looks a little bit like a gas stove burner. Perhaps that means I’m ignorant, and I certainly don’t claim to have any expertise when it comes to art or architecture. Unsophisticated or not, I look at pictures of the John Lennon inspired light monument and ‘imagine’ cooking a pot of beans over it. Don’t hate me; I still think Imagine is a wonderful song.
