With holidays coming along, The Beatles' Greatest Hits Album still remains a popular holiday present for many fans. There is also a plethora of Beatles merchandise for any hardcore Beatles fan.
However, it isn't the legendary music or merchandise that remains in the gossip columns. Paul McCartney has currently been making headlines with his messy divorce from Heather Mills. There has been a strong public backlash against Mills evident by both the media's portrayal of Mills and the death threats that Mills has received since the couple's split.
This isn't the only time a Beatles' romance has caused media controversy. There were mixed opinions on John Lennon's marriage to Yoko Ono of which many Beatles fans blamed Ono for the breakup of the Beatles. Therefore, it can be safe to say that Heather Mills has become the most hated Beatles' wife since Yoko Ono.
Heather Mills' public image has been under public scrutiny from the very beginning of her and Paul McCartney's marriage. Mills is an English activist and a former glamour model. She has also been known for wearing a prosthetic leg after having had lost her leg due to being hit by a police motorcycle.
Despite the positive outcomes that have come from her activism, the media has portrayed her as a gold digger. Mills has publicly argued against those who have criticized her for marrying McCartney purely for money. She has since been fighting with the media's harsh comments.
In July 30, 2006, McCartney filed for divorce from Mills citing "unreasonable behaviour". The media blamed an affair on Mills' part, but Mills has denied that an affair had actually occurred.
In December 2006, Mills told the BBC that she had received "death threats" since the split. She claimed that she was worried for the safety of her child and has even contemplated suicide due to the hatred that has been directed towards her.
Most recently, Mills was caught in some compromising pictures which the media has dubbed as pornography. Mills responded that she had created a "sex education video" back in her younger times. Unfortunately, even more controversial photos have arisen that have challenged her claim of merely doing "sex education videos".
Since the divorce, Mills has criticized the rich through the following statement:
"Sadly, you have to mix at a certain level of people to raise the level of funds you need to bring about the greater good. Because people are very snobby. These people who have lots of money, they're either snobby or they're stingy. If you have lots of money, you have to be stingy- because why would you want that amount of money?"
The media has had a field day with comments from Mills, like the above. The ironic aspect is that Mills is going through a messy divorce and will want money. It's not exactly a smart thing to disrespect the socioeconomic group you plan on joining.
Paul McCartney has admitted that he had to learn "patience" when it came to his estranged wife. With her multiple rants in the media about their divorce, McCartney admitted he's dealing with the situation the best that he can.
